ATI Consortium Advancing National Metalcasting Technologies

Takes Part in National Project for Process Improvements

Charleston, SC – SCRA today announced an initiative of part of its American Metalcasting Consortium, “Pathway to Improved Metalcasting Manufacturing Technology and Processes- Taking Metal Casting Beyond 2020.”

The American Foundry Society (AFS), representing the American Metalcasting Consortium (AMC), was one of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) AMTech award winners that will support improvements in advanced manufacturing for U.S. industries. AMC is composed of AFS, SCRA Applied R&D, Non-Ferrous Founders Society, North American Die Casting Association and Steel Founders Society of America. The AMC project, “Pathway to Improved Metalcasting Manufacturing Technology and Processes -Taking Metal Casting Beyond 2020” will launch an industrywide road mapping effort to identify research and related actions aimed at achieving significant improvements in U.S. metalcasting processing capabilities and productivity.

The AMC is managed by SCRA’s Applied R&D division. The consortium develops new metalcasting technology and processes to support the Defense Logistics Agency in the design, manufacture, and procurement of critical cast parts. AMC’s mission is to develop and apply new technologies that will rapidly deliver high quality, cost-effective cast parts to support the military.
