Army inks unique R&D agreement with consortium on advanced weapons development

2024-02-02T08:23:52-05:00May 20th, 2022|ATI in the News|

Cooperative research and development agreements (CRADAs) are vehicles that enable federal entities to combine resources and engage in R&D with non-government institutions to unlock breakthroughs around topics of shared interest. Such agreements aren’t new, but a CRADA signed this week between the Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (CCDC) Armaments Center and the National Armaments Consortium (NAC) has multiple elements that make it unique.

CADS: Search alloy options by mechanical properties

2024-02-02T08:23:53-05:00May 11th, 2022|Success Stories|

Before the Casting Alloy Data Search (CADS) tool, casting suppliers lacked a way to efficiently identify casting design options that would meet requirements. The American Foundry Society (AFS), through the American Metalcasting Consortium's Innovative Casting Technologies (ICT) program, has continued to improve CADS by adding a mechanical property slide bar search.

The magic glove

2024-02-02T08:23:54-05:00May 9th, 2022|ATI in the News|

How exactly the ReHeal Glove got to where it is now—flush with funding and undergoing various rounds of testing—is largely due to the role of the Medical Technology Enterprise Consortium (MTEC), a nonprofit corporation that operates as the premier facilitator and collaborator across the entire DOD. Indeed, if it weren’t for MTEC, the near decade-long effort to develop the ReHeal Glove may have withered on the vine. Instead, it provides a promising medical option for millions.

Forging furnace improvements with ceramic coatings

2024-02-02T08:23:55-05:00April 26th, 2022|Success Stories|

Forging furnace fuel consumption, constant refractory maintenance and unscheduled downtime are significant cost drivers for the forging process. A Forging Defense Manufacturing Consortium project led by Thermal Coating Solutions in partnership with ITC Coatings, installed ITC Coating on two partner forging furnaces, resulting in reductions in fuel consumption from both plants.
