Advancing Naval Autonomy: Textron Systems’ Next-Generation Unmanned Surface Vehicle Award through EMC2

In 2025, the U.S. Navy took a major step forward in autonomous maritime operations with the Low-Cost Unmanned Maritime Solution (Large) award to Textron Systems through the Expeditionary Missions Consortium–Crane (EMC2). This award supports the design, development, testing, and delivery of Textron’s fifth-generation Common Unmanned Surface Vehicle (CUSV) the Multi-Mission USV (MMUSV). Building on Textron’s proven legacy with the Navy’s Mine Countermeasures (MCM) programs, the MMUSV introduces enhanced range, endurance, and maintainability, providing a scalable platform to perform a variety of missions from mine warfare to intelligence and surveillance.  By integrating these advancements, Textron continues to play a pivotal role in strengthening the Navy’s operational flexibility and protecting sailors in high-risk environments.

The EMC2 program, managed by ATI under an Other Transaction Agreement (OTA) with the Navy, enables innovative defense partners like Textron Systems
to rapidly prototype and deliver mission-critical technologies. Through ATI’s leadership, EMC2 brings together government, industry, and academia to streamline acquisition and accelerate technology transition to the fleet. This collaboration reflects how ATI’s agile management model transforms innovation into operational capability—ensuring that the Navy maintains a decisive edge in unmanned maritime operations.

The Low-Cost Unmanned Maritime Solution (Large) award marks a milestone in the Navy’s journey toward autonomous force multiplication—delivering a fifth generation unmanned system that enhances endurance, reduces cost, and increases mission safety for sailors through the collaborative power of the EMC2 consortium.
