NSAM project named as finalist for Defense ManTech Achievement Award
The Naval Shipbuilding and Advanced Manufacturing Center (NSAM) team has been recognized as a finalist for the 2019 Defense Manufacturing Technology Achievement Award for its achievements in the Technical Data Integration and Search (TDIS) project. The Joint Defense Manufacturing Technology Panel sponsors the award, which recognizes those responsible for outstanding technical accomplishments.
The TDIS project reduced manual searching to locate and deliver pertinent technical data. With its increased efficiency, the project saves an estimated $2.9 million annually, by reducing labor hours to locate data across multiple data systems, reducing labor to package and deliver technical data for internal Requests for Engineering Investigation, and reducing labor to package and deliver technical data for external Requests for Engineering Support.
The awards were established in 1999, and are given to teams comprised of both government and private sector members who are responsible for outstanding projects in manufacturing technology. In 2017, NSAM won a Defense Manufacturing Technology Achievement Award for retractable bow planes system improvements.
