NSWC IHD holds NEST collaboration event

To date, 83 SONs have been solicited through NEST, and they have received 227 whitepapers. Twenty-seven projects are currently in the award process with a total expected value of more than $180 million, and the first awards are expected to be finalized in the next few weeks. The event was the third in a series of collaboration events to promote NEST.

Army asks industry to develop handheld sensor to help care for military burn victims on the front lines

This handheld device is for Army battalion aid stations, brigade support aid stations,and field hospitals for triaging and evacuation decision making. Officials of the Medical Technology Enterprise Consortium (MTEC) in Summerville, S.C., issued a request for project proposals (MTEC-22-08-BDA) on Friday for the Burn Digital Assessment project.

NuCressTM bone scaffolding solution for healing bone trauma on the battlefield and beyond

These efforts have been successful, and Dr. Biris’ university spinout venture NuShores received a fourth award in FY20 by the U.S. Army’s Medical Research and Development Command’s Clinical and Rehabilitative Research Program (CRMRP) via an Other Transaction Agreement (OTA) competitively awarded through the Medical Technology Enterprise Consortium (MTEC). This transition of the initial NuCressTM manufacturing process from the JWMRP to the MTEC focuses on the optimization of the manufacturing process by investigating multiple and consecutive iterations of automation to improve quality, cost and efficiency. The deliverable is to demonstrate the feasibility of producing the NuCressTM bone void filler scaffold by a fully automated, intelligent production system with real-time in-process quality monitoring and control.

DoD and National Spectrum Consortium team for Open RAN acceleration

The National Spectrum Consortium, with support from the Department of Defense (DoD), recently announced the release of a “Call for Whitepapers” to their membership requesting feedback and ideas from industry and academia that could help accelerate the development, manufacturing, and testing of 5G Open Radio Access Network ("Open RAN") technologies in the United States. The central goal of this outreach is to help identify obstacles to emerging or existing companies in accelerating the commercialization of Open RAN in the U.S.

MIMEDX receives $4.6 million award from the Department of Defense to advance the treatment of combat casualty wounds and burns

The award from the Medical Technology Enterprise Consortium (MTEC), a 501(c)(3) biomedical technology consortium collaborating under an Other Transaction Agreement (OTA) with the U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command, is sponsored and will be managed by the Naval Medical Research Center (NMRC) to advance medical treatments for combat wounds and burns.

Nontraditional IWRP Consortium member sees successful prototype transition into production

In FY21, NIWC Atlantic transitioned 9 successful Information Warfare Research Project (IWRP) Consortium OTA prototypes into production awards with nontraditional IWRP Consortium members leading five of those efforts. Since September 2020, NIWC Atlantic has transitioned a total of 13 prototypes into production awards with a ceiling value over $636M, capitalizing on the streamlined process of OTAs to move through prototyping directly into production.

How exactly the ReHeal Glove got to where it is now—flush with funding and undergoing various rounds of testing—is largely due to the role of the Medical Technology Enterprise Consortium (MTEC), a nonprofit corporation that operates as the premier facilitator and collaborator across the entire DOD. Indeed, if it weren’t for MTEC, the near decade-long effort to develop the ReHeal Glove may have withered on the vine. Instead, it provides a promising medical option for millions.

Hughes selected by the DoD to deploy a private 5G network

Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HUGHES)has been awarded an $18 million contract from the Department of Defense (DoD) to deploy a standalone, 5G network at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island in Washington state. The Other Transaction Agreement (OTA) was issued through the Information Warfare Research Project (IWRP) consortium, a collaboration to engage industry and academia to develop and mature technologies in the field of information warfare that enhance Navy and Marine Corps mission effectiveness.
